Artificial Grass Maintenance Tips for Perth’s Hot Summers

How to Look After Your Artificial Grass in Perth’s Summer Heat

Summers in Perth are long, hot, and dry. Some days hit over 35°C. While fake grass is made to handle the sun, a little bit of care in summer helps it stay clean, cool, and looking fresh.

Here are some easy tips to take care of your turf during the hot months.

1. Hose It Down and Give It a Quick Brush

Dust, leaves, and dirt can build up more during dry weather. Just give your lawn a light hose and brush every now and then.

Use a broom with stiff bristles to lift the grass up and keep it looking tidy.

2. Spray It With Cool Water on Hot Days

Turf can feel a bit warm in the middle of the day — especially in full sun.

If your kids or pets are going to play outside, give the grass a light spray with water. It helps cool it down fast.

3. Add Some Shade if You Can

If parts of your yard get really hot, adding some shade helps. Things like umbrellas, shade sails, or a small pergola work well.

It makes the area more comfy and keeps the grass (and your outdoor furniture) cooler too.

4. Clean Up After Pets Quickly

In summer, pet wee can smell worse than usual.

Give it a good rinse with water, and if needed, use a turf cleaner or deodoriser. Pick up solid waste as soon as you see it and rinse the area with a hose.

Our pet-friendly turf drains fast and is easy to clean.

5. Watch for Heat from Reflections

Shiny things like windows or metal fences can reflect sunlight and make some spots super hot.

If that happens, try using anti-glare window film or plant something nearby to block the reflection. It helps stop damage to the grass.

6. Move Heavy Items Around

Don’t leave things like paddling pools, chairs, or toys sitting in the same spot for too long — especially in the heat.

They can flatten the grass. If that happens, just brush the area and it should bounce back.

7. Check the Infill if Your Turf Has It

Some turf types have a soft layer (called infill) inside to help with drainage and comfort.

In summer, this can shift or get flat. If you notice any hard or uneven spots, you might want to top it up. It helps keep the lawn soft and cool.

8. Keep an Eye Out for Weeds at the Edges

Weeds do not grow much in fake grass, but sometimes they pop up near the edges — especially near garden beds.

Just pull them out when you see them. You can also use weed matting or tape under the edges to help stop them from growing back.
